Teachings The benefits of the Vajra Guru and Mani recitation

A year has twelve months. You could count the number of drops of rain that fall during such period of time, but you cannot measure the merit that comes from a single recitation of the Six Syllables Mantra: OM MANI PEME HUNG!

As these six adamantine syllables are the quintessence of the Great Compassion and Wisdom of all the Buddhas, you could use up an adamantine iron mountain eighty four thousand miles high by sweeping it with a smooth piece of silk a single time each kalpa, but you cannot exhaust the merit that comes from a single recitation of the Six Syllables Mantra: OM MANI PEME HUNG!
A small earth worm could eat up all the great Mount Meru, the central axis of our universe, but you cannot exhaust the merit that comes from reciting just one time the Six Syllables Mantra: OM MANI PEME HUNG!

As the Six Syllables Mantra is the quintessence of the Great Compassion of all the Buddhas, if you recite it every day one hundred times, you will not take birth into the three lower realms but you will born as human beings and you will meet face to face the Buddha of Compassion. If you always recite it twenty one times, you will get a quiet and prudent mind and behavior, your voice will be melodious and you will understand the meaning of all the Dharmas. If you recite it every day seven times, you will exhaust all your faults, you will clear up all your veils and in all your lives, wherever you might born, you will be inseparable from the Buddha of Compassion. If you recite it continuously, you will become Buddha in this very life!
Compared to worldly remedies and exorcisms, the Six Syllables Mantra is the best of antidotes for whosoever is tormented by physical or mental illnesses. The Six Syllables Mantra has greater benefit than whatsoever medical cure or treatment. Even the Buddhas of the three times cannot express, nor count, all the measureless qualities of the Six Syllables Mantra. If you ask why, is because it is the quintessence of the Enlightened Mind of all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas who continuously look with unceasing compassion at the six classes of beings liberating them from samsara. For this reason you, future generations of followers, take the Great Compassion as your own focus and recite the Six Syllables Mantra as your essential mantra! As the Enlightened Compassion of all the Buddhas frees from the fear of falling into the lower realms, make prayers to them with faith, devotion and aspiration. As it is the source of real blessing don't have any doubt or hesitation. The Buddhas of the three times never taught any Dharma more profound than this and even me, Padmasambhava, I don't know any one!
I'm living now. The time has come to say goodbye. Tibetan followers keep this in your mind!"
Having the Guru said so, king and subjects where very happy and prostrate themselves many times. Turning his face toward the southwest, the Guru departed. The prince Murub Tsenpo and his subjects returned, each to his own home, each to his own practice…

The Buddhas of the three times didn't teach anything higher than the Six Syllables and the Vajra Guru Mantras. They are the supreme quintessence of all the billions of mantras. They are the essence of all the superior, inferior and medium things to be practiced. In few wonderfully marvelous words they condense a vast and profound meaning. If you are a fortunate person, practice them! If you wish for supreme happiness and joy, practice them! If you wish for children, richness, family and spiritual lineage, practice them! If you wish to become a Buddha within this lifetime, practice them! If you wish to shake the samsara from its depths, practice them!
